Avtar Singh – a thespian who brought a revolution in the Punjabi Music Industry

Avtar Singh was born to Sardar Raghbir Singh and Sardarni Ranjit Kaur on 18th November, 1945 at Jalandhar. At an early age, Avtar Singh discovered his fascination with the sound of music – its rhythm and tweaking. He grew up to be an industrious young man who successfully accomplished his studies in Electronics. Despite having a job in the field of Electronic Engineering Avtar Singh’s passion for music and film industry continued to burn inside him. One day he decided to quit his career as an Electronic Engineer, and follow his long cherished dream to Punjabi film and music industry.

Avtar Singh started his career as a film actor. He worked as the main villain in famous Punjabi feature film, Babul Da Vehra with Dara Singh. While working in the movie, Avtar Singh realized the dearth of technical know-how and expertise in the Punjabi film and music industry. Disappointed with the lackadaisical directorial skills and expertise of Punjabi music industry’s technicians and artists, Avtar Singh decided to start his own sound recording studio. In 1980 he started Rimpy Cine Sound Master, first one of its kind music recording studio in North India. The mission statement of the company was clear – to bring together the latest technology and Punjabi music world together, for a common objective of promoting Punjabi music, language and culture.Avtar Singh catapulted Punjabi music industry to new heights. Operating from a small setup Avtar Singh leveraged latest technology to benchmark quality and technical parameters in music industry. The company facilitated all aspects of state-of-the-art, digital recording, and pioneered the art of Audio Video Music Recording and Post Production services. Today, the company has grown to a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional professional audio and video music recording company which specializes in direction, cinematography, editing, visual effects, and audio for music videos, TV and films. Prince is a director and cinematographer with a passion for the filmmaking process

Harpreet Singh @ Prince was born to Sardar Avtar Singh and Sardarni Nirmal Kumari on 2nd October 1979 in Ludhiana, Prince was greatly inspired by Punjabi culture and music as a child. He started experimenting with film making, cinematography, and editing as he entered the Higher Studies. Soon directing music videos became his passion. In addition to his work as a Director, Prince has an extensive experience in the field of cinematography, editing, 3D animation, graphic, compositing, matte painting, DI, color correction, and VFX. He excels as DOP (Director of Photography), for both outdoor and indoor.

Prince has always maintained his head start on the competition, taking Punjabi music videos and desi beats into realms previously unexplored. Time and again, he has shown his natural affinity with different genres of music and videos, be it hip-hop, desi beats, bhangra dance soundtracks or drum ‘n’ bass- mesmerizing audiences across the continents of the world with an undoubted mass appeal. This, in turn, has earned him a highly respected reputation as a director and cinematographer of the highest order. Prince relentlessly dedicates himself to master his craft and further extend his knowledge of cinema and the art of film editing.

His Punjabi music videos have won world wide acclaim and praise for direction, emphatic storyline, and other technicalities. In addition, most of his video albums have also been major hits in the India, US, UK, Australia and all across Europe.

Padamjit singh @Rimpy was born to Sardar Avtar Singh and Sardarni Nirmal Kumari on 2nd February, 1972 at Jalandhar, Rimpy joined Rimpy Cine Sound Master, a company started by his father Mr. Avtar Singh, at a very early age. For 16 years, he pioneered the art of Sound recording carving a niche for him in the audio industry. Gradually he shifted to Punjabi music video industry as a director. He has directed many hit music video albums, songs, and promotional films for major international companies and artists. In addition to his work as a Director/writer, Rimpy excels in the field of story/script writing, screenplay, and dialog writing. As an interactive media veteran, Rimpy has been a new media pioneer and has developed interactive content practices which reach out and engage an audience. The freshness in writing, treatment, screenplay, dialogues and characterization has become his signature skills.

Rimpy has flourished in the music business for more than a decade. Be it hip hop, desi beats, bhangra songs, or instrumental, Rimpy has delivered them all. Amongst the many projects he has written and directed are: “Mini Punjab” a feature film which has had international distribution, and has been transmitted on UK, US, Canada, Australia and throughout Europe. The movie made him one of India’s most promising writer/director.
